I have been involved in adult education since the year 2000, teaching GED test-taking strategies and career readiness to 16- and 17-year-olds in Richmond City's and Henrico County's Individual Student Alternative Education Plan (ISAEP) program. Meanwhile, I was also serving as a part-time counselor with VALRC's statewide GED Helpline.

In both of those settings, I advocated the use of multimedia and online curricula as well as intensive hands on instruction. Making use of appropriate technology is still a major theme for me in my approach to adult education. With the Race to GED as part of Virginia's Education for a Lifetime Initiative, my position expanded to full-time management of the statewide GED Helpline and facilitation workshops for adult education instructors.

Currently, I am splitting my time coordinating professional development trainings for Virginia’s GED teachers, implementing eLearn Virginia, our statewide online distance learning program for GED students, as well as continuing to manage the GED Helpline.

I am currently working toward a Masters of Public Administration at VCU's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. I have a BA in English from Mary Washington College and serve on the Statewide Governing Board for the Virginia Organizing Project. In 2008, I became a new dad with the addition of my son, Jasper. I enjoy riding bicycles, cooking, writing, civic engagement.
