Darcy Crocker has served with the NoRF (Northside Reading Foundation) grant since February of 2008. After she received her Bachelor’s of Science from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, Ms. Crocker worked in the fashion industry for 8 years before returning to graduate school to study education. She holds a Masters of Education in reading and an Education Specialist degree in early literacy and interventions from The University if Virginia. Upon moving to Richmond in 2005, she founded Research Based Teaching, a company dedicated to improving reading instruction through professional development, private remedial tutoring and individual educational testing. She works with area school systems to implement researched based teaching and reading instruction.
Ms. Crocker is adjunct faculty for The University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University. She teaches graduate classes for central Virginia teachers in Foundations of Reading Instruction, Word Study, and Reading in the Content Areas.
Currently, Ms. Crocker works at The Literacy Institute on the PEELLS (Partnerships for Excellence in Early Language and Literacy) grant and with Northside classroom teachers and assistants in applying scientifically based reading research and best teaching practices. She has over 15 years experience working for nonprofit companies and has been in education for over 10 years. Ms. Crocker implements monthly professional development workshops based on current research. She also coaches teachers individually in applying Scientifically Based Reading Research at the classroom level.
